- Porsche unveiled the 911 at the 1963 Frankfurt auto show to replace the 356. Initially offered only as a coupe, the brand's second production model featured streamlined styling and a rear-mounted air-cooled flat-6 engine. The 911S joined the range in 1966 as a more powerful alternative to the base 911. Porsche made several visual and mechanical updates to the 911 in the 1960s and the 1970s. These relatively early variants helped turn the 911 into the icon it's widely recognized as today.
- Porsche paint code 137 -- known as "Gelbgrün" or "Lime Green" -- became one of the brand's defining colors of the '70s. Offered as a standard paint option on 911s and 914s for only a few years in the middle of the decade, 137 lives on today as "Greenyellow" through Porsche's Paint-to-Sample program.
- Power comes from a 3.0-liter air-cooled flat-6. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
